Objective:

 

To give the citizen portable daily eating advices for taking care of health and keeping fit, as well as people’s eating preference to restaurant.

 

The device would calculate the nutrition facts user needed depending on their general information entered, and give the diet health advices according to their eating habit, in advance, notify them if disease data entered, such as allergic.

 

Although many similar nutrition systems exist in the market, most of them contain many too professional functions to common users. The proposed system will let the user easy to use, make the interface friendly.

 

 

Scope: 

The proposed system has some scopes, that is related to users’ and restaurants’ corporation and PDA’s internet assess ability.

 

The user’s data is hard to be quantified. It has several reasons. The user may forget to enter the record of daily data. Thus the system has to evaluate the corresponding possible missing data. In some cases, especially in Chinese family diners, all family members eat the same course. The user do not know the exactly quantity of eating. According to these reasons, the data collected is hard to be properly.

 

To make the system running efficiently, the restaurants join in this system should cooperate well. They are compulsory to update their menu database regularly. Otherwise, the system can not match the correct name of course.

 

The system requires the PDA to be internet-enable. Users’ data will be sent to server through internet, while the PDA should get the menu information from database stored in server.

Objective:

Although many similar nutrition systems exist in the market, most of them contain many too professional functions to common users. They do not have friendly user interface, and they let PDA do too many works. Thus, our group proposes to develop a new nutrition system.

 

Brief System Architecture:

 

This system (HNMS) includes two sides: PDA and PC server. The PDA is always took along with the user, thus the user can input easy data entry, such as his age, weight, food information, and diet preference, from the PDA. Then the PDA can promote a health diet plan to the user.

 

In the server side, it contains a great database, which stores food information. Such information includes corresponding nutrition elements, quantity of heat and so on. Restaurants and food suppliers have corresponding account in the database; they can update their food information through internet to the database.

 

PDA connects with server through wireless network, thus PDA updates the data from server. While the user order food on PDA, the server will calculate the nutrition data based on the input. Then it will give an advice to the user about his food choice. To illustrate, if the food is not good to user’s health, the system can suggest the user to choose a similar taste food, even the other kinds of food.

 

Scope:

In the PDA side, the users can use this system to monitor their healthy condition, get the healthy advice, and order the food through internet by PDA from restaurants. In the server side, the restaurants can know how their food sells, whether the customer like their food. Finally, the restaurant, food supplier and users will achieve interaction.

 

Development tools:

In the PDA side, the operation system is Windows Mobile 5.0, while our group will use J2ME to develop the PDA side program. In the server side, the development tool is Servlet.

Proposal which will be sumbitted next Friday was discussed tonight. following are the parts included:

Background – nutrition

Objective – why we do it

Function (System Architecture)
1.-          record daily diet
   
-          record daily workout
   
-          calculate the trends

 

2.

- warn some cannot eat

- Comparison foods

       - Medicine notify

       - Food suggestion

 

3. to restaurant

- know frequently order

- Restaurants update their own database

 

Problem of existing systems

-          database is limited

-          can only calculate on the PDA, cannot connect to server

-          do not have warning(do not eat it), recommendation (comparison), and alert(aim to medicine and some schedule)

Scope

-          data is hard to quantified

1.  forget to record

2.  hard to record (when too many people eat the same …)

3.  hard to be properly

-          restaurant may not update database frequently

-          PDA must assess to internet, or internet-enable

each group member is in charge of one part. we will finish the draft on Wed. meeting will be held for the modification of proposal.
